A Little History About Coffee And Espresso Machine

A large percentage of the population loves to drink both coffee and espresso. We are all aware of the fact that coffee and espresso provide a boost of energy and they also warm your body up on those cold winter days. Most, however, are not familiar with the history of the coffee and espresso machines, themselves. Without these machines, we probably wouldn’t see such a large population that can easily and affordably prepare these common drinks.

Where did the coffee maker come from?

Since the days of the early Egyptians, coffee has been a staple beverage for most people. Though the Coffee bean originated in Africa, it quickly spread to neighboring countries, like Arabia and Egypt. The first method of preparation was to roast the beans on an open fire and then added to boiling water for consumption.

It is believed that coffee was probably considered a type of wine and used to barter and trade. Fermented in much the same as grapes, coffee was a source of energy and warmth for most, but some drank it because they loved the taste, too.

A man by the name of Mr. Laurens came up with the first coffee-making machine in 1818. The machine was constantly modified by coffee drinkers. The coffee machine was actually a product that had just as many patents by women as men, that was practically unheard of at that time!

Through the years, the machine has become a reliable, dependable and easy to use product. In the 1960’s, the first filter machines were invented and the modifications have improved even more since then. Coffee machines began as crude looking inventions, but have evolved into many different styles, making it possible for a Governor and a Harley biker to own the same style! Found in just about every home, the coffee machine is made by many manufacturers, including: Braun, Senseo, Kitchenaid, Krups and Pod.

Where did the espresso machine come from?

Discovered by a goat herder and developed by a tired, hungry traveler, the espresso drink has provided many with the extra energy they may need. The goat herder noticed the goats acting like they had an extreme boost of energy. As he searched for his heard, he noticed they were snacking on a red berry growing from shrubs. Curious, he ate a berry and felt as if he had suddenly gained more energy as a result. At the same time, a tired, hungry traveler witnesses the occurrences and jumped at the chance to try it for himself. Having the same reactions as the herder and goats, he knew that they were on to something. He took some berries and began to add them to drinks for those in his hometown, as the drink seemed to be a good source of energy. The idea took off from there!

The first espresso maker is said to have originated in 1901, by Italian manufacturing company owner, Lugia Bezzer. He was simply looking for a way to help speed up his employee’s coffee breaks. He figured out that if pressure was applied in the brewing process, the drink could be made in a lot less time. Nicknamed “The fast coffee machine”, the espresso machine patent was sold in 1905. The new owner, Desidero Pavoni developed an espresso machine that used a piston pump to force water through a tube and into the coffee.

Modifications on the espresso machine were halted by the onset of WWII. Production picked up after the war and in 1946, the commercial espresso machine was invented. Since that time, the espresso maker has been produced by many name brand companies, including: Juda, Mr.Coffee, Kitchenaid and Braun. Offering various features, styles, colors and prices, the espresso machine has come a long way!

Coffee Vending

Coffee is an efficient drink which makes you active and keeps you refresh for hours. Coffee vending business is very common in the world these days and it has become a necessity today. You have seen coffee vending machine installed at public places like airports, hospitals, bus stands, railway stations and many more places. But the success of these vending machines relies upon the blends due to the intense competition by coffee shops.

Every customer has its own taste and he chooses his blend accordingly. The blends you can get at a coffee vending machine are as follows:

Oomph Espresso: it is the blend of high quality Brazilian bean with melodious smoothness of Columbian coffee and very strong in taste than any other blend.

Lush Arabica: it is the blend of Arabica Brazilian beans with sweet supremo Columbian coffee cherries. It is the most popular blend and it is light and smooth in taste.

Slurp Supreme: it’s a smooth medium blend of tart spicy quality of Monsoon Malabar, the nuttiness of Brazilian Arabica, the chocolatiness of Ethiopian Sidamo, the power of Vietnamese Robusta and the exoticism of Costa Rican Robusta.

Java Organic: this is most energetic and delicious drink blend which keeps you refresh the whole day.

Costa Rica Fairtrade: it is the rich blend of warm nuttiness combined with an exalting citrus tang. It is considered as the highest source of inspiration and idea generation.

Liberty Fairtrade: it is smooth and mellow in nature and Columbian high quality supremo beans keep you active in the office for hours.

Although coffee vending is a tough business due to massive competition but the easily accessibility provide it a competitive edge over coffee shops. The success of vending machine is depends upon the services and the blends you are offering to your customer.    But few things should be considered while setting up a vending machine like location of setting up coffee vending machine, your target market, marketing strategy, brand of vending machine, vending machine you are installing are user friendly or not, guidelines on machine or user manual and so on. Brand of vending machine may not be considerable that much but the blend you are offering to your customer and a moderate price matter a lot in this business.

Commercial Coffee Makers

The ABC’s of Commercial Coffee Makers

If you find a day without a single drop of caffeine in your system simply intolerable, then you’ll probably want to make sure that your old breakfast buddy works every time. We’re talking about that commercial coffee maker that always seems to have a place in your kitchen counter so that every morning, you can scoop in the coffee, add water, and turn it on and god forbid if it would suddenly stop working because there would be hell to pay.

So you can’t live without your commercial coffee maker. But have you ever wondered how the whole thing even works? What happens when you press that tiny little button? And how does the water get from the little compartment to the top of the commercial coffee maker?

Well, good news. Any questions you may have about your commercial coffee maker have been answered. Here, you will learn all the itsy-bitsy bits about your commercial coffee maker that you may have wondered about but never bothered to find out (because you’re too busy enjoying your cup of brew). For purposes of this article, focus will be on the typical drip coffee maker, which is the most common type of commercial coffee maker available.

First, let us examine the parts. The most obvious, of course, is the coffee pot (where you pour your coffee from). Now, take the top off of the contraption and you will see three important parts: the bucket that holds the water, the black tube that carries the hot water to the drip area, and the drip area where water from the black hot-water tube falls through tiny holes onto the coffee grounds.

The drip commercial coffee maker is not a high tech device but its straightforward design is to the advantage of those who just want their morning coffee on a regular basis without having to constantly figure out how to make the device work.

Now, how does your commercial coffee maker make hot coffee? Well, it all comes down to simple physics and two small contraptions: resistive heating element and an aluminum tube. The resistive heating element is just a coiled wire not unlike the filament of a light bulb. When electricity runs through the wire, it increases in temperature.

The resistive heating element actually does two jobs:

* When you first put the water in the commercial coffee maker, the heating element boils it.
* Once the coffee is made, the heating element keeps the coffee warm. (The wire connects with the heating pad to make sure of this.)

And that is pretty much what happens inside your commercial coffee maker. It’s not rocket science, but the kind of coffee it can make certainly makes you think that it’s probably one of the best things man ever invented.

Commercial Espresso Machine Reviews

My Beer Machine Review

Pros of my beer machine review

No bottling required

A positive attribute about the beer machine is that you do not have to bottle your beer. While bottling your own brew can be fun to show off to your friends, it can also be very tedious cleaning and reusing the bottles. With the beer machine you simply dispense it from the tap, just like at the tavern. The beer machine does have a special attachment if you desire to bottle your own beer.

Pro #2 of my beer machine review

Fresh tasting beer.

No beer tastes better then when it is tapped directly from the source. The Beer Machine automatically controls CO2 levels, and this CO2 level can be controlled, using supplied cartridges, to enhance the natural carbonation and the beer head, if you so desire.

pro #3 of my beer machine review

Great variety of mixes and flavors.
Even though the Beer Machine comes with a beer mix, there are many more beer mix types available: American, British, Australian, German, and Irish; just to mention a few.  My personal favorite is “Octoberfest Special”, which is a mixture of Canadian Red Lager & Amber Ale.

Cons of my beer machine review

pressure control valve

When using the beer machine you will have to Inject CO2 to add pressure inside the beer machine, which can be a little complex if you have never done it before. The learning curve can be a little frustrating at times, but after your first batch you should be comfortable with this. The most important task is to make sure your seal is tight. Some consumers reported having to tighten the gage with there own wrench.

what others are saying

The Beer Machine®; proved the easiest way to brew yet yielded superior results second only to the more labor-intensive traditional brewing kit. True Brew’s Irish Stout (18 points) was worth every drop of effort but the judging was the most difficult.

The most famous “dry” stout is Dublin’s Guinness, but it would be unfair to use this as a standard because Guinness is unique even among Irish stouts. The yeast alone is different from any other. The Irish Stout compared well to another Irish brand, Murphy’s, from Cork.

The rich, cream-thick head clung to the glass all the way to the end of the clear, espresso-dark pint. Body was full, no wateriness, and the taste was right-on – a balance of toasty malt and hoppy dryness. All agreed that at 10 weeks old, the stout was a tad sweeter and a bit more carbonated that commercial brews.

On the other hand, 10 weeks may be a bit longer than many thirsty throats may want to wait. If that’s the case, then the speedy The Beer Machine®; is the better thirst quencher.
Source cited from popular mechanics magazine

I have made 3 batches with it and everyone has come out perfect. just add the mix water and a packet of brewers yeast and even a small packet of baking yeast will work. its easy no mess and you don’t need to add any sugar unlike its lower priced ugly cousin Mr. beer. the only recommendation I have is when you pour half of it with water then add the mix stir it until almost dissolved then add more water. make sure it’s a little warmer then room temperature. allot of it will dissolve. then add the yeast and wait about 5 days then put it in the fridge for 10 and it will be perfect.
Source sited from amozon.com reviews

Conclusion

I personally believe there are more pros then cons when it comes to the beer machine. I have attempted to give an honest objective view, to those who are
considering buying the beer machine

Coffee And Blood Pressure

coffee and blood pressure

Coffee, Good Or Bad for the Blood Pressure?

Caffeine, Good or Bad for the Blood Pressure? This is another one of those “is it or isn’t it” issues that probably by and large depends on a whole variety of associated issues but as it is one of the most regular of all of our queries I thought I would go ahead and try and provide some form of opinion.

Firstly from my own point of view, I have just started drinking Coffee again after an absence of about 15 years and thought that while I was undergoing a review of my medication for High Blood Pressure that I would see whether I could resume my on/off love affair with Caffeine.

To be honest the jury is still out as far as I am concerned in that yes there are the positives of being able to sit down every now and then with a hot cup of coffee and savour the rich and glorious aroma of freshly ground coffee but there is the down side also. For my part this is now a recurrence of the headaches that made me give up drinking the stuff in the first place and then there is the caffeine “hit” that has now started to resemble a punch!

It is probably best to try and understand the chemistry behind Coffee and the human being before you start to make what comes remotely close to a definitive pronouncement of whether Coffee is good or bad for you. How does Coffee manage to have this sort of effect that one minute has legions of aficionados claiming it to be the “nectar of the gods” and the next minute claiming it to be the “juice of the devil!”

The famous Native American hero, Chief Crazy Horse is widely acclaimed to have made the following statement about Coffee. “If the Great Spirit has something better than coffee, he keeps it for himself.” Now it is a medical fact that Caffeine increases blood pressure. For those with normal blood pressure this is not a problem. For those with an already increased blood pressure then this can be an issue that causes further problems.

The whole situation is further complicated by the fact that Caffeine is such a widely available substance by which I mean that it is present in a great many different beverages and drinks and also in a wide variety of freely obtainable over the counter (OTC) medicines such as certain types of Painkillers, weight loss drugs and various cold remedies.

The other side issue with the consumption of Coffee is that coffee increases the excretion of calcium which in turn tends to compound the whole “High Blood Pressure Cycle” by further acting as another cause of increased Blood Pressure.

As far as Women are concerned, the Calcium loss can have a further side effect and this is especially the case with regards to Woman who already have issues with a calcium deficiency. Because Coffee acts as a diuretic as has been mentioned above this further loss of calcium is aggravated via increased excretion. For those who already suffer from Osteoporosis, studies have shown that the diuretic qualities of Coffee can be an issue.
And the conclusion to all of this?

I’m afraid it is the same with Coffee as with most things, there is a lot to be said of the old saying that “a little bit of what you fancy does you good” but in this case it really does mean a little.

Office Coffee Makers

Guide to Thermal Coffee Maker

For those who love coffee, any implement that can offer coffee around the clock is a great asset. One that qualifies under this label is the thermal coffee maker. This implement is an economical buy which can keep you happy when you need a pick me up. All you have to do is to feed it whatever type of coffee you need, add water and plug it in. This is the only thing you need to do to have a continuous coffee supply day and night.

What Are The Other Advantages Of Possessing A Thermal Coffee Maker?

Cost – the first thing that is great with the thermal coffee maker is that it does not cost an arm and a leg. Though advanced models can be a little pricey, the normal thermal coffee maker is within the reach of anyone.

Size – the size of the thermal coffee maker is small enough to be kept anywhere and since it does not need gas, but electricity to make coffee, it can be kept in any office from where anyone can have as many cups as they want. The capacity of the thermal coffee maker is anywhere between two cups and 12 cups.

Choice – the thermal coffee maker comes in many types and brands, each better than the other. When you go for buying one, you could be overwhelmed by the immensity of the choice you will get in the market. If you are single (or live alone) you could get a coffee maker which has an average size capacity (some 4-6 cups). In this way, if anyone comes, you would not run helter-skelter to manage a few cups of coffee.

Flavor – a good thermal coffee maker will not have the flavor tampered with even if the coffee stays overnight. This is why you should always go for the branded stuff when you buy appliances or sensitive items like camera and all, because these things cannot be compromised with.

Automation – some coffee makers will have an automatic setting which will ensure that the coffee is ready by a certain time that you should feed it with. It is wonderful to get up in the aroma of fresh brewing coffee. The automatic coffee maker is one of the most popular models for making coffee. Each one of the above reasons could be the reason for buying the thermal coffee maker.

Rancilio Espresso Machine

Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine – Buy At Auctions & Save Big

Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine

Rather than running to your local coffeee bar or favourite corner cafe for the best cup of espresso, consider making your own at home. If the idea of turning into a kitchen barista has you shaking without any caffeine, think again! There are a big choice of espresso machines like the Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine that are geared for home usage, from the basic to the same machines employed by the operatives. However, before you drop a pair hundred of dollars on that top of the line espresso machine, think about your options and desires.

The first think you want to know before picking a home espresso machine is that there are a few different types of machines. Each different kind of machine will come with a different price tag and different capacities. Though the head of the line machine could be nice, it might not always meet your needs. Instead of buying an espresso machine just because it is deemed the best, get a machine that you can ( and will ) use on a constant basis. The different sorts of home espresso machines are : Pump Espresso : Sometimes what you will find in a cafe, a pump espresso machine are sometimes made for commercial purposes, but could be employed in your place.

Also, pump espresso machines are sometimes the largest, heaviest, and noisiest of the options, but it makes a superb cup of espresso. Instead of a pump to form pressure, these machines employ a level that must be maneuvered to be maneuvered to create steam.

However, be aware of the steam produced may not give the acceptable level of pressure, so the steam level should be consistently maintained. It needs a great deal less pressure than the other sorts of home espresso machines, but there is no milk frothing or frothing attachments, so you might have to sacrifice that feature for price and size.

Espresso Machine 101 – a Guide to Making Espresso

A person who operates an espresso machine for a living is called a barista. Similar to artisan baking, the knowledge and skill required to make the best espresso beverages is considered to be a craft in Italy. Increasingly, baristas in America are being recognized as such too.

When one makes a shot of espresso, it is called pulling a shot. This is because the traditional espresso machine that is used requires the barista to pull a long handle in order to produce a shot. For a single shot of espresso, between 7 and 10 grams of finely ground (almost a powder) coffee is needed. For a double shot, between 12 and 18 grams are used. A single shot of espresso is 30 ML of liquid, a double shot is 60 ML.

Before the espresso can be brewed, it must be tamped. To tamp espresso, the barista must compress the coffee gounds into a dense puck. When the brewing process starts, nearly boiling water (90 degrees Celsius) gets pressured though the coffee. Espresso is the result.

If the water is too cool, the espresso will be sour. If the water forced through the coffee is too hot, the beverage will be bitter. The best espresso machines control the temperature of the water, ensuring that it is always within a couple degrees of the ideal temperature.

This brewing process extracts and emulsifies the oils in the ground coffee, producing a thick, rich beverage. A shot of espresso takes approximately 25 to 30 seconds to go through the ground coffee puck and into the waiting cup sitting below the espresso machine. This is an ideal zone, and water pressure, tamping and fineness of the grind can all have an effect on this time zone. The cup that one drinks espresso out of is called a demitasse cup, and is best when pre-heated.

Capresso Espresso Machine

Jazz Up Your Java At Home

According to 2005 National Coffee Drinking Trends, published by the National Coffee Association of U.S.A. Inc., more than 53 percent of consumers age 18 and older drink coffee on a daily basis, up from 49 percent in 2004. That translates into 7.7 million new coffee drinkers.

With consumers enjoying a wider range of coffee drinks in offices, corner cafes and restaurants, they are also demanding better-tasting coffee at home. Here are a few ideas for a better brew:

●   Pressure-brewed is best. In blind tests, more people prefer the taste of coffee that is high-pressure brewed, versus any other method. High-pressure-brewed coffee requires the use of pump-pressure coffee machines, like espresso machines.

●   All pressure-coffee machines are not equal. There are several types of these machines. Steam-driven espresso machines create pressure in a closed boiler, then force the hot water through the coffee. Most can make up to 10 ounces of coffee at a time. A pump espresso machine pumps hot water through ground coffee faster than a steam machine, creating more pressure with better flavor and aroma.

Automatic coffee centers, like those from Jura-Capresso, provide maximum flavor and aroma because they grind the beans just before the high-pressure brewing process. These machines control all aspects of high-pressure brewing, resulting in a better quality beverage, regardless of whether you choose an espresso, cappuccino, latte or just a large cup of pressure-brewed coffee.

●   Look for crema. Crema is thick frothy foam that sits on top of pressure-brewed coffee or espresso, trapping all the flavor and aroma underneath.

●   A high-pressure-brewed coffee should always be the base for your cappuccino or latte. If you prefer cappuccinos or lattes, experiment with the amount of milk to suit your taste. Remember, coffee does not have calories, but milk does.

●   Determine your price range. Take a look at your coffee-drinking habits. If you purchase two cappuccinos a day, you may be spending about $1,900 a year on gourmet coffee. For less than this, you can purchase an automatic coffee center from Jura-Capresso that produces the same quality found in the coffeehouses.

Automatic Coffee Maker Timer

From Percolators to Espresso Machines: Finding the Right Coffee Maker

You would probably be hard pressed to find a home today that doesn’t own a coffee maker. They are in practically every kitchen. Some are nothing more than stove top percolators and some are full-fledged coffee/espresso/cappuccino makers able to churn out a latte or a cup of coffee.

The coffee maker you decide on for your kitchen should be one that matches your coffee preferences. If all you are concerned with is a good cup of coffee, a simple coffee maker will suffice. However, if you are regularly making a morning trek to the local coffee shop for an espresso, you might want to consider purchasing one for your kitchen.

There are many types of coffee makers to choose from, knowing what each one is will help greatly in making your purchase.

Drip Coffee Maker

The drip coffee maker is the one you see in most kitchens. The coffee is brewed by heating and siphoning water from a reservoir. This water is then deposited slowly into a filter basket filled with coffee grounds. The resulting coffee then drips through the filter into a decanter which sits on a heating element.

Today’s drip coffee makers can be found with a wide variety of options. The decanter is typically 8-12 cups in size and can be glass, ceramic, or even stainless steel. Your coffee maker can have a clock, an automatic timer to start brewing before you wake up, and can even have a built in grinder for the freshest ever. Most also have an auto-off option which turns the heating element off after a certain amount of time.

You can’t get more traditional in your approach to coffee brewing than by using a drip coffee maker. Introduced for home use in the 1970s, these machines work by letting water pass through coffee grounds held in a paper filter or plastic filter. The clear, light-bodied coffee then collects in a brew pot.

Single Cup Coffee Maker

These machines are among some of the newest on the market. Some are available that use regular ground coffee in a smaller filter basket yet only brew one cup at a time, while others use specialized coffee pods to brew individual cups as needed.

These coffee makers are great for people who don’t drink a lot of coffee or families that have only one coffee drinker. Another added benefit is that each person can brew their favorite coffee or flavor.

If you use the pod type brewers you will pay a premium price for the pods, making this coffee maker more expensive than other models.

Percolator

The stove top percolator may look like an antique to many people. For those who have used percolators they know that the coffee has a very different taste from drip coffee makers. This type coffee maker is very slow and alters the natural taste of coffee.

Espresso Machine

The espresso machine is the ultimate in coffee makers. However, unless you purchase a combination espresso-coffee maker you will only be making espresso. Espresso machines are wonderful for making coffee based drinks and are very quick. If you like espresso occasionally and you are a coffee drinker to; you might want to consider a combination coffee-espresso machine.

Your coffee maker is what you want it to be based on your investment. If you are a ritualistic coffee drinker who has to have that morning cup of java to get going, spend a little more money and get a machine that is going to last and that does what you want it to do. If however you only have a coffee maker so that your guests can have coffee or you only occasionally have coffee yourself, there is no need for you to make a large investment.
