I love coffee; this could be the title of the next best seller for all the employees. Hours spent waiting for the beloved coffee-break, to relax and collect energy again. There are a lot of legends and curiosities on the creation of this miraculous beverage.

The most well-known is probably the one coming from the Chehodet monastery in Yemen. The legend tells that monks, having learned from a shepherd that his goats were lively even at night, if they eat certain berries, they decided to prepare a beverage with these berries that enabled them to stay awake the night. Another legend is about Mohammad, who one day when he was feeling bad, received the visit of the Archangel Gabriel, sent by Allah with a miraculous beverage.

The beverage was dark as the Sacred Black Stone of the Mecca, commonly called “qawa”. Mohammed drank it, suddenly revived and left again for new exploits. Maybe for us the coffee of the drinks dispenser does not have the same effect, but surely at least can give us the energy for some hours of tough work.

The most famous story tells, however, that in Arabia a shepherd named Kaddi, having grazed his goats, appalled noticed that, after eating the berries of a spontaneous plant, showed signed of excitement. The shepherd, failing to explain what happened, submitted the problem to the old Abbot Yahia. The abbot, sensing the properties of the plant, created a bitter and full of heat drink, that warming the body, could invigorate it, freeing it from sleep and tiredness. That is exactly the same drink that we can taste every day in bar of in the office.

A similar legend says, instead, that coffee was discovered by an Imam in an Arabic monastery; the Imam prepared a decoction and let all the monks taste it, who stayed awake without problems all night long. Another story says that an Arabic monk, the sheikh Ali ben Omar, that was alone during a trip to Moka, a city in which he was accompanying his master Schadeli, who died during the journey.

An angel appeared, he was encouraged to continue toward the city where a terrible plague raged. Here, with his prayers to Allah, he was able to heal many sick people and even the daughter of the King, who he fell in love with. But the King decided to make him move away, and the monk, obliged to live in the lonely of the mountain, to satisfy his hunger and thirsty, had to ask for the help of his Master, who send him a wonderful bird with colored feather and an enchanting song. Aroused and relieved by the melodious sing, Omar came near to admire the bird and arrived there, he saw a tree covered with white flowers and red fruits: the coffee plant. He took some berries and made a concoction with healthy virtues that he often offered to pilgrims who came to his shelter. When the news spread of the magical quality of the drink, the monk was welcomed back in the kingdom with great honors.

Coffee is a beverage of ancient and enchanting past, that has not lost its fascination even if now we can find it everywhere. Coffee is still an inseparable companion of our days, with its priceless virtues which make it still irreplaceable.

Most apartment kitchens are already supplied with stoves and refrigerators included. However, if you need a new stove, microwave, or refrigerator there are many types of such appliances that are good buys, you just need to know what brand, size, and type etc. that you need. Here are some ideas to get you started if you are looking for new stoves, refrigerators, microwaves or other kitchen appliances:

* Refrigerators:

§ The most popular and convenient refrigerators are side-by-side as opposed to the actual fridge part being on the bottom and the freezer on top or vice versa.

§ Water and ice dispensers on the outside of the door are a very nice touch that make water and, if you choose, ice water easily accessible.

Virtually all kitchen appliance manufacturers offer such items.

· The dishwasher:

Most dishwashers come with push button controls or simple to use dials in the front. Dishwashers in general are fairly accessible appliances, but sometimes you will want to do a little research on the reliability of such kitchen appliances before purchasing your dishwasher.

Dishwashers are usually at least 34″ high and will fit perfectly beneath a standard 36″ high counter. Unfortunately, standards kitchen appliances do not work for everybody.

For example:

Some people are very tall and have trouble bending. In these cases the person should try to have a higher dishwasher installed, (and often will have higher counters as well). This approach will make their experience in their kitchens a whole lot less painful–and such accommodations for the installation of kitchen appliances is sometimes even doctor recommended.

For another example:

People who use wheelchairs often find it easier and more accessible to have a kitchen counter that has provides space underneath it so that they can pull their wheelchair right up to the counter like a chair. Thus the size of the dishwasher they choose to purchase will have to be carefully considered.

· The stove:

Of all kitchen appliances the stove is one of the most important. There are plenty of kitchen appliance manufacturers currently designing burners and ovens especially with different kinds of accessibility in mind.

§ Knobs:

Sometimes there are knobs or push-button controls in the front of the stove. This way the user does not ever have to reach across a hot burner while cooking.

§ Ceramic cooktop units:

Another great kind of stove is the type of stove or burners with flat surfaces. These kitchen appliances allow you to easily slide pots and pans from one area to another, and are incredibly easy to clean up after.

· Ovens:

The way that the oven door opens is also very important.

§ Many ovens have a door that pulls downward. This sort of door will provide a very convenient transitional shelf.

§ On the other hand, some consumers prefer a door that swings to the left or to the right. This may seem to allow him or her better access to the oven racks inside.

* Microwaves:

Microwaves are kitchen appliances that are safer and much less expensive than other kitchen appliances. They are easier to operate than conventional ovens especially because you set the cook time and the microwave immediately turns itself off. This is a great feature for the forgetful cook. Sure you can set a timer for your oven, but the oven stays hot and if you do not hear the dinger–supper may be burned, and you may even have to disconnect the smoke alarm. But with a microwave oven, the item you have heated up will just sit there, waiting for you to remember it.

§ Look for features like a microwave with a door release that can be simply pushed shut.

§ Many microwaves have pads for programming the operation you need, such as cooking popcorn, re-heating soup or beverages, defrosting frozen leftovers etc. These pads are terrific, unless you have low vision. Or you can, of course, set your own time and heat levels with the number and cooking level pads.

§ Some microwaves have a timer dial rather than a touch pad.

* Smaller conveniences:

Other kinds of kitchen appliances are not necessary, but make for great accessories and can be incredibly useful in the kitchen. Without some of these smaller and less essential kitchen appliances, there are some things that you will not be able to make.

§ In-sink garbage disposers:

It is easy to become dependant on in-sink water dispensers. Once you get used to not having to scrape off the remains of your meal on or in your dishes into the trashcan it becomes habitual to take the dishes straight to the kitchen sink. If you do this without an in sink garbage dispenser your drain will get clogged–and quickly.

In sink garbage disposals are designed especially to dispose of food waste easily. And they will help your trashcans smell better longer, for lack of rotting food collecting inside.

§ Instant hot water dispensers:

Instant hot water dispensers can be a great convenience for those who need quick access for things like coffee or soup. However, it takes only a minute or two more to heat your water in the microwave. Accessories such as instant hot water dispensers are a fancy touch to add to your kitchen for extra convenience.

There are many kitchen appliances to choose from that I have not mentioned here. Popular and smaller items such as blenders, coffee makers, espresso machines, mixers, egg timers and more are great items to own, though not essential. Whatever kitchen appliances you choose to purchase for your kitchen, make sure they are in high quality condition and will be long lasting for your convenience.

A reverse osmosis water dispenser may not be the right choice for your family. There are many things to consider before you buy reverse osmosis water filtering systems. We’ll look at some of them here in this article.

First, you should decide if you actually need a reverse osmosis water dispenser. Everyone needs to purify their tap-water before drinking, but reverse osmosis water filtering systems are more expensive than competing technologies that are just as effective.

Whether or not you actually need the reverse osmosis water dispenser depends on what is in your source. If you are serviced by a treatment facility, what comes out of your tap has already been through similar steps. In some facilities, several reverse osmosis water filtering systems are used.

If you have well water or another source that is heavily contaminated, you may need a reverse osmosis water dispenser, but first you should have your testing done, to see which contaminants you are faced with. Depending on the level of contamination, you may need a variety of purification steps.

If bacterial contaminants are present, you need a disinfection step. In years past, most homeowners used chlorine for this step, but today a compact ultra violet light is available for a reasonable price.

If chemical contaminants, pesticides like lindane or herbicides like atrazine, are present, you may need a variety of stages to remove them all. The system that removes the most chemical contaminants is a multi-stage device that includes activated carbon and other media in block form to trap chemicals on its surface as the water passes over it.

The best ones target chlorine, THMs, VOCs, pesticides, herbicides, MTBE, TCE and the design is such that microscopic bacterial cysts are also removed. They cannot pass through the sub-micron design of the block.

Some of the new reverse osmosis water filtering systems combine designs like this with their normal membrane filtration. Aware of the things that RO alone cannot remove; they have begun to include additional steps, such as UV disinfection, in order to make a complete home system.

But the question still remains, do you need the RO step, at all. If you are serviced by a treatment facility, the answer is no. In most cases, the answer is that there is a better less expensive alternative.

A countertop reverse osmosis water dispenser costs three times as much as the multi-stage system that I mentioned earlier. For most of us, that multi-stage system is all that is needed. If you actually need RO treatment, it is unlikely that a countertop device would perform as desired.

Since, the only people who need reverse osmosis water filtering systems are those with contaminants larger than water’s molecules, in other words, dirt and debris, as would be found in an open source, there is no way that a countertop unit could do the job. It’s just too small.

One of the primary disadvantages of a reverse osmosis water dispenser is that the result of use is de-mineralization. A trace mineral content improves taste and is better for your health. Other filters purify, without de-mineralizing. That’s the best choice for my family and probably yours, too.
